Find the right kind of support
Psychosexual and relationship therapy covers a lot of ground, so it helps to start somewhere that already gets you, rather than somewhere you first have to explain yourself. Because everything is interconnected, what happens in the rest of your life can affect your sex life and relationships, and what happens in your sex life and relationships can affect how you feel everywhere else.
Two different things, often needed together
Psychosexual therapy
This works with desire, arousal, pain, sexual function, anxiety around sex, and how your relationship with your own body feeds into all of that. It's the place to bring things like mismatched libido, pain during sex, difficulty reaching orgasm, erectile difficulties, or wanting to feel sexually satisfied again after a period of disconnection. It can be done on your own or with a partner.
Relationship therapy
This takes the wider view: how you communicate, how you handle conflict, trust, and whether you're both actually getting what you need from each other. It's where communication breakdowns, rebuilding trust, working out long-term goals, or just wanting to feel properly heard tend to live. It's usually done with a partner or partners, though it can start with just one person working out what they want.
Where they overlap
In practice, the two are rarely separate. A sexual difficulty often affects how connected a couple feels, and relationship strain often shows up in the bedroom. That's why this is offered as one combined practice rather than two separate services, so you don't have to work out which box you fit into before booking.
Therapy built around where you're starting from
Getting started
Whichever service fits, here's what stays the same
Every service above starts the same way: a free initial consultation with no pressure attached, just a conversation to see if it's a good fit. From there, sessions run for 50 minutes, either online across the UK or in person in Brighton, whichever suits you better. Everything discussed is confidential, with the standard exceptions any UK therapist has around risk of serious harm.
