Low cost/free therapy support
Therapy costs money, and for a lot of people right now, that’s simply not there to give. If you’ve put off getting support because of the price tag, or because every option you’ve found felt out of reach, you’re not being dramatic and you’re not alone.
Support if you can't afford therapy right now
This page is here so cost doesn’t have to be the reason you go without support. Below you’ll find my own low-cost therapy slots, books that genuinely help, other low-cost and student therapy services, my courses, and free guides over on Cliterally The Best. Pick whatever fits where you’re at right now.
A few low-cost slots, always kept open
This isn't a token gesture tucked away somewhere, it's a genuine part of how I run my practice. These sessions run the same way as any other, 50 minutes, weekly or bi-weekly, just with a fee that reflects what you can actually afford. Because there's only ever a few slots, there can be a bit of a wait. It's always worth asking anyway.
WHAT TO KNOW
- 3 low-cost slots available at any one time
- Capped at 12 sessions
- For anyone on a low income or receiving benefits
- Please enquire for session rates
A shelf worth starting with
Therapy isn't the only way to get support, and it's not always the first step either. These are books I come back to recommending again and again, whether you're on a waitlist, saving up, or just want somewhere to start.
A quick note: these are recommendations, not a replacement for support. They just tend to help alongside it, or while you're waiting for it.
Come As You Are - Emily Nagoski
The one I recommend most. Genuinely reassuring on why desire isn't as simple as "wanting it or not".
ADHD After Dark - Ari Tuckman
Specifically on ADHD's impact on sex and relationships, practical rather than academic.
Ace: What Asexuality Reveals About Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex - Angela Chen
An engaging exploration of what it means to be asexual in a world that's obsessed with sexual attraction, and what the ace perspective can teach all of us about desire and identity.
Mating in Captivity - Esther Perel
Explores the paradox between domesticity and desire, offering insights into maintaining passion in long-term relationships.
Polysecure - Jessica Fern
Polysecure is a must read for those thinking about dipping into non monogamy or have been part of the community for years.
Trans Bodies, Trans Selves - Laura Erickson-Schroth
A comprehensive, reader-friendly guide for transgender people, with each chapter written by transgender and gender expansive authors.
My Vulva and I - Lydia Reeves
A book of beautiful vulva casts along with the stories of who owns them. an amazing book for body confidence.
The Handi Book of Love, Lust & Disability - Andrew Gurza
The Handi Book of Love, Lust and Disability unearths new conversations on sex, relationships and disability. It's beautifully designed and full of raw, powerful and inspiring stories, poetry and artwork from 50 phenomenal contributors from the disabled community.
Kink Curious - Gigi Engle
A Guide to Exploring Your Kinks, Dispelling Shame, and Staying Safe
elsewhere
Other low-cost and student therapy services
I only have 3 low-cost slots at a time, which isn't much when the need is so much bigger than that. So if mine are full or the wait doesn't work for you, here are other genuinely good places to look, including services with supervised trainee therapists at a much lower cost.
- Your Time To Talk - Low-cost relationship and sex therapy with trainee therapists.
- Sex Therapy Herts - Low-cost psychosexual therapy, fees based on income.
- JKL Therapy Centre - Low-cost psychosexual therapy through their trainee therapists.
- The Awareness Centre - Low-cost psychosexual and relationship counselling in Clapham and Tooting.
- The Therapy Yard - Low-cost options with therapists in their final year of training.
- NHS and sexual health clinics - Some offer psychosexual counselling directly, worth asking at your local clinic or GP.
Reading on sex, identity & relationships
Alongside everything else on this page, I keep a free blog right here on the site, articles on sex, identity and relationships, sorted by topic so you can find what's actually relevant to you. No booking, no cost, just something to read when you need it.
